Overview
Our philosophy is guided by our Elders, knowledge keepers and traditional fluent language speakers. We practice and achieve wellness through equal growing opportunities in education and traditional knowledge, including reviving the Dakelh language, health, culture and traditional celebrations. Our Dakelh language and culture are the foundation of our identity.
School community
The Headstart program provides a positive learning environment for children that enhances their development through play and experiences and through positive guidance from trained staff and support workers. Children are exposed to situations that stimulate curiosity, innovation and independence, and that encourage their decision-making capabilities through interaction and respect for others. As educators, we role model and teach emotional recognition to young children to help them be aware of their own emotions and what each feeling represents.
Our culture is deeply rooted in having and showing respect in all social interactions, and children are guided to incorporate empathy and compassion in their interactions.
Our community
Our beautiful community has a small town atmosphere with resources to suit every need, including a multiplex and health centre. We are located southwest of Vanderhoof in the central interior of BC.
