The landscape of Central BC is a juxtaposition of temperate rain forests, grassy mountain ranges, snow-capped mountains and arid deserts.  It is an area known for its horse ranches, Sun Peaks Ski Resort, and the legendary Bowron Lake Provincial Park, but it is much more than that. Professionally, certain teachers in Central BC are eligible for full tuition reimbursement for coursework taken towards higher categorization. In more rural communities, teachers may receive a rural and remote allowance of approximately $2,300 per FTE.

In the region's schools, there are small school districts serving 1,200 students in 11 schools, and larger ones operating 48 schools for 14,000 students. The student population is likewise as diverse. In one district, 57% of the students are of Aboriginal decent, and in another, seven first nations bands are represented.
